    All the throats are brass-usually over painted but can still be polished on any scabbard-these are basically the same for the various previous British 'bowie' blade types for the LE No.4 and 5 rifles-the partial black paint near the hilt is also a typical finish applied at the unit level-these bayos are still in use and have been since the late 1950s-many variations of finish.

    I thought it might be a parade bayonet, I have seen a couple of chromed SLR bayonets which would not be hard to get chromed but this one must have been dismantled to chrome just the blade and catch mechanism.
