Jan
they look like french ww1
I have one identical to the lower of the two, with about an inch more blade though this is still shorter than it should be. I think its British about 1870s for the Martini-Henry .... But thats only an ameteur guess....Anyone help us out? Ill post a pic soon.
Cheers
Reg
Hi guy`s , these are French bayonets , the lower one being a Chassepot bayonet manufactured to fit the Chassepot rifle dated from approx. 1866 onwards and the top example is an Mle. 1886/35 issued with the Lebel rifle also fitting the Mannlicher Berthier 1916 rifle
REGARDS AL
We are the Pilgrims , master, we shall go
Always a little further : it may be
Beyond that last blue mountain barred with snow
Across that angry or that glimmering sea...
Thanks Alan, I was way off the target as usual.
Hi Jan, yes, the blade on mine is broken and not just shortened, I dont know why this is! Maybe broken in surrender?
Cheers
Reg
I beleive many were cut during WW1 to make trench knives, but these look broken rather than purposly cut.
This is my only Bayonet of this time
