    Default unknown fighting-knife

    Hi!

I´ve got a question to this particular fighting-knife.

    Dimensions:

    Lenght overall: apx. 28,7 cm
    Blade lenght: apx. 16,2 cm
Lenght of the hilt: apx. 12,5 cm
Lenght of scabbard: apx. 16,6 cm
    crossguard: apx. 5,9 cm / 21 mm / 3,4 mm
blade: apx. 4 mm "strong", apx 2,6 cm "broad"

    rel. "heavy" blade ... ,

    two wooden grip-plates,

    Not any markings visible ...

This knife´s serial-made for sure and not an "trench-art" !

A fellow collector spottet some of this knive´s at flea-market´s once before, (but in very poor shape and without scabbard).

    In a German Gun-magazine this knife´s also shown ...
There´s believed, that this knife probably was manufactured in Romania, Czechoslovakia or Russia ...

But no evidence in case of the period of production, only the suggestion, it´s "wartime" ...

The blade´s an almost look-alike to an italian Marine diver´s-knife of 1970, (maker: Galeazzi, La Spezia), but the diameters doesn´t really match ...
Also the general impression of my knife doesn´t give´s me really the feeling, to classify it into the seventy´s ...

Does anybody of you have had seen a knife like this before ?

    Thx in advance,

    R.

In my eyes it´s the same knife !

    Very interesting !

    It´s really a miracle ...

I showed my knife in some forums, but till now nobody was able to help me ...

    Hi !

    Day´s ago I catched another-one !

    dimension´s:

    overall-lenght: 28,9 cm
    blade-lenght: 16,5 cm
lenght of the hilt, (incl. crossguard): 12,4 cm
lenght of the scabbard, (without loop): 17,3 cm
lenght of the crossguard: 5,89 cm
    crossguard-breadth: 2,21 cm
thickness of the crossguard: 3,5 mm
width of the hilt: 2,86 cm
thickness of the hilt: 2,1 cm
    blade-width: 2,58 cm

Upon the scabbard is written in pencil:

    Gefreiter Siegel. R57., (I guess ...)

Maybe the knife was captured by a German soldier in WWI or in WWII ?

It seem´s, that some part´s of the scabbard have been "repaired", (German-made ?) ?

Hi Reibert , that`s a interesting knife and i have been searching for answers and maybe something similar . I have not seen one of this design before , the nearest i have seen with a similar design was a Czech bayonet for the VZ58 rifle . These were manufactured post WW2 and during the Soviet occupation and the earlier production examples still used wood slab grips , so i was thinking perhaps they could have used the parts to make up the knife you show , but this is only a guess , what do you think ?

    I don´t think so.
Here´re pics of the czech made bayonet with wooden grips, (packed in plastic).

IMO my knive´s are older !

Hi Reibert , i agree you`re knives look older , the point i was trying to make was that the design was similar in blade shape and grip , therefor , there is a good chance that the knives were Czech made also .
