Default US or French Socket Bayonet?

Hi all. I am trying to determine whether this is a US M1842 socket bayonet or a French M1847. To me they both look the same. As you can see the bayonet is in semi- relic condition and missing the locking ring. I can just make out a couple of markings on it which I have attempted to capture. If any collectors more experienced in socket bayonets could suggest what markings should be on an M1842 or M1847 that would be great. Many thanks.

It may also be beneficial to get the ID of the socket. the only US socket bayonets I have colleted are for the trapdoor and marked with US where your close up pictures are but I can not make out the marks.
