Rare WW1 Italian bayonet. It's a Vetterli Mod. 70/87/16 with brass handle, ersatz wartime substitute bayonet for the VV70 rifle. It retains 90% of its original black finish, all the components in pristine condition. The ones who are into bayonets&blades collecting, will know that this is an uncommon piece. The third blad in my ''3 blades collection'' beside an Italian Arditi dagger and a Austrian Sturmesser. Cheers

Strange move by the Italians to start making new bayos for an old, obsolete rifle-usually works the other way round, making old bayos fit current weapons!

Looks like a ersatz piece for old Veterli-Vitalli M1870/87, the blade is typical M91 carcano, so no refurbished from older pieces, the brass handle is cast. MRD of barell ring should be 17,5mm.b.r.Andy

Yes, as stated, it's a It's a Vetterli Mod. 70/87/16 with brass handle (also known as ''versione d'emergenza''), ersatz wartime substitute bayonet for the VV70 rifle, having the M91's blade. And yes, the barrell ring is 17,5mm. Produced during WW1 this took a standard M-1891 Carcano Rifle Bayonet blade and mounted it into an all brass hilt in the form of the earlier Vetterli Bayonet Hilt. .The Bayonet measures 16.25" in overall length. I must add that searching the web, i was able to find very few of this type (the only examples were in considerably worst shape, and far away from still having the original factory finish) and having very high prices (price range between 500$-900$). Also an interesting fact, is that i recovered it from an elder house in Romania...who knows its background history....
