Here is (I think?) a early St&L 57er Ostmedaille. The quality is every bit as good as the war time version. It also looks to have been stitched to the ribbon since issue perhaps to display in a cabinet of the original owner.

Looks very nice, and I think that this kind of mounting gives it character. Unless I am much mistaken, I had seen this piece on German eBay a while back and considered buying it, but instead went for another one (see New 1957er Ostmedaille ).
Thanks for the reply. Not mistaken at all. I had been after one for a while now to pair up with my war time version and German Ebay does appear to have some good 57er medals from time to time. I'm so impressed with the quality I shall be looking out for a few more early 57er medals. Collecting is certainly a never ending road!
