    Default 57er Nahkampfspange......

Gents, received this in the mail this morning, a Bronze Close Combat Clasp (Nahkampfspange), 1957 variety...took a chance as the photographs was not good, but for £19, I thought worth a chance. Showed a buddy of mine, an advanced 57 collector, who reckons that although not mm it has all the traits of being an "FW ASSMANN & SOHN" produced clasp..early production, (note the closed hingeblock and small "C" catch) sharing parts with the Steinhauer und Luck version, but a bit more quality to boot ! (The finish is sharp !) it is slightly vaulted. St u L and Assman were neighbours on the same street in Ludenscheid, and so as in the TR period often used each others parts, hinges, pins, etc (Most manufacturers did this). The give away to being an Assmann piece is the "Bakalite" insert, not being metal as with other makers, although the "Duemer" produced clasp was one piece with painted insert ! Enjoy......

Very nice ! Are the 57 awards heavily faked?

    Kind regards

Alex....they did not used to be.....but sadly now they are, the fakers are even modifying TR fakes into 57 fakes !
so beware, I recommend you post here if you are ever tempted to collect..
    Prost ! Steve.

Interesting info. The details are very fine. I didn't know the makers helped each other that much. I guess they could still make money by selling spare parts to others.
