eadwaerd...Great photo, the next in a sequence of photographs or stills from a film (see post 56), which shows marching in Paris on the Bastille Day parade 2007, down the Champs-Elysees, these are soldiers from the Austrian Garde-Bataillon (Guards Bn) from Vienna, together with other nations formations. I believe it is the only Austrian unit where the officers wear breeches and swords
    Prost ! Steve.

A few more of the Garde. In the last two pics, is that the Hoch-und-Deutschmeister regimental standard?

The Bundesheer also used a version of the Wehrmacht-era M43 cap and, much like the Bundeswehr, it was reintroduced in the 1950s. Here's my 1958-dated Bergkappe. Note the orientation of the edelweiß -- flower forward. This goes back to WW1.

This cap also exists in a brown cotton version. The woolen cap was updated in the 1970s to a smoother, twill fabric. Unfortantely the M43-style caps were replaced by a BDU-style cap in brown cotton for the field and a WW1-style kepi-like cap for dress. I have one of the latter and will photograph it later.

Here's the new version of the Bergkappe in use by Gebirgstruppen of the Bundesheer.

The picture of girls' day with the Hafflinger (?) is amusing. Girls' day is an institution in the Bundesheer. And the Norwegians have now instituted conscription for all.

The current Bergkappe which replaced the M56/M43 style cap a few years ago.
