The last re-design of the Deutsches Sportabzeichen (German Sports Badge) was in 2007, when the letters "DSB" [= Deutscher Sportbund, i.e. German Sports League] were changed to "DOSB" [= Deutscher Olympischer Sportbund, i.e. German Olympic Sports League], reflecting the organisations' 2006 name change and the wreath design was changed.

Even though this was a little over a decade ago, I'm not sure if the current-style badge has already been featured on the forum, so I thought I would present it here. (Even though I must admit that I find the current style with the simple, non-entwined block letters to be rather unattractive compared to all earlier incarnations of the badge.)

Here is the badge in its bronze, silver and gold grade and the numbered gold badge for 10 yearly repetitions. (The numbered gold badges start at "10" and, in steps of 5, go all the way up to "60". Since 2013, the numbered badges are in a bi-color design with a silver monogram and a golden wreath and range from "5" to "65"; they are awarded no matter what grade(s) were repeated. Also, in 2013, the issue badges were reduced to an 18 x 15 mm miniature size.) These are brand-new, unissued badges that I purchased directly from Steinhauer & Lück, the longtime manufacturer of the German Sports Badge:

Very nice Andreas. I had no idea they were still produced.
"Please", Thank You" and proper manners appreciated

They sure are. With more than a century of history behind it, the badge is still going strong: In 2017, a total of 193,855 awards were made (and another 585,015 of the special badge for children and youth).

The DOSB's official award statistics can be found here (German language):

You're right, they are not as nice looking as the intertwined versions, but they certainly make a very nice addition to the time-line of this sort of award<img src="https://www.warrelics.eu/forum/images/smilies/sigpic741_5.gif" alt="" title="cool" smilieid="17" class="inlineimg" border="0">

Very nice collection and thank you for sharing them with us. I too had no idea that these were still produced and awarded.

This is why I love this forum. I don't have as much time as I'd like to spend on the forum due to my working unstructured shifts but when I do get time I learn something new every time.

This is a great tradition. I hope it keeps going. It appears the standards must be very high since only 193,00 adults qualified for the award in 2017. Starting in the 1950's, the US had the Presidential Physical Fitness Award. I still have several I received, one of them has a facsimile of Richard Nixon's signature, LOL. They only issued paper certificates.
