Gunners Black Panzer Beret....
Gents, just picked up this nice gunners black beret ....although dated 1983, it sports the early Panzer beret badge without the national flag emblem which was added to badges starting around 1979, it would seem this fellow was either issued an old style badge or sourced one to show a vain veteran status ! Any how, why is it a gunners ? Well, look at the badge......notice the barrel on the tanks gun...it is bent ! done on purpose by the wearer, as it was customary for the practice to be done as an sign that the wearer, a gunner had achieved his first 120mm hit !
The seller had mentioned that the badge was damaged in this way...but I knew its significance !
Prost ! Steve.
