    Default M1952 BGS Helmet.

Gents, although not Bundeswehr, the BGS IMO has a connection, as a lot of men from the BGS transferred to the "new" Bundeswehr upon formation. BGS, (Bundesgrenzshutzes) the Fedral German Border Guards, was set up in the early 1950's and wore a mixture of Police and paramilitary style uniform, but nothing like the eventual Bundeswehr, quite distinctive. One such item was the helmet they wore, which looked for all like the wartime M35/40...two such models being worn from inception to sometime in the early 70's ? (If anyone has a time frame, please illuminate as this is not my sphere of collecting) the Model 1952 and the Model 1953, the M53 looked less like a wartime version as it did not have either vent holes or liner pins, but the M52 was at a distance a ringer for an M40 with its pressed in vents and 3 liner pins...its interior however was of the M31 style but not as complex in its construction....here is an M52, with textured moose green paint job, complete with originally marked BGS chinstrap and wearers unit details !
    Prost ! Steve.
