    What I can tell you is that the eagle is of the design once used on the peaked caps of the Bundesgrenzschutz (BGS). The cap eagle was abolished and replaced by a "police star" cap badge with the federal eagle in 1976.

    While I don't have any reference materials on BGS belt buckles, I have the suspicion that this is a put-together piece.

    I understand the BGS only used this buckle, the one with the cap badge has been "lashed up"!...
