Here's the latest addition to my collection of Para helmets. Inner liner and straps are in very good condition. I assume that this one is Bundeswehr issue as well as being German made. The code to the shell is... 8415-12-127-1077...SH57-61 6/89. I think the last numbers may well be the production date, but I'm not sure. there is also a name to the liner, which may be... D Vollode...

    Hi Mate.

In my humble opinion, this is a really nice, M1A1 LL, the LL stands for, Luftlandtruppe (air land troops airborne)

Really nice German para helmet, and a quality piece of kit too!!

I think the 57 is the shell size, and the 61 is the year of manafacture.

These type of lids were also used by the Belgians too,but with a Belgian chinstrap.

Thanks for showing this one, great collectable in my books

it has a soldiers name written inside "J HUNDT"

    also RUTA or HUTA?

the shell has a few scuffs and appears to have been used on a few jumps

I think you should add a clip on West German helmet net like mine, they usually had some type of camo cover or net.

here is my West German M71 para helmet with a US Mitchell camo cover brown side out attached with a net over it and a piece of inner tube used as a helmet band.

the cover flaps are tucked inside and the cover is placed over the shell with the clips holding it on.

I don't think one should call this helmet a M71, since they were in use already in the sixties.

As Gaz says M1A1LL is the correct nomenclature.

As far as I know they used bij Gernany, Belgium and Dutch Special Forces.

Is there any knowledge in this forum about additional users?

    Cheers,
    Emile

No additional knowledge on the users but on the markings: the 6/89 is definitely the manufacture date while the 57-61 shows the size range of the helmet. I think these LL helmets have fixed sizes so this should be the size range of the shell. The usual german steel helmets have adjustable liners and 57-61 (cm) is the most common. The long number is - as you might know - the article number. The 12 in it being the code for Germany, i.e. German manufacture.
