When its a WW1 Imperial 1914 EK I made during the 57er time line !......hence this piece I have just picked up, made by St u L around the early 1960's using the hinge, pin, catch, backplate and frame of the 1939 57er version available at the same time, infact I have such an example the only difference being the core. This 1914 version is three piece with magnetic core. WW1 replacement awards were made available to veterans from 1914 through to the mid 1980's when production ceased by St u L the only remaining producer of these awards.....St u L produced a small selection of Imperial awards alongside their 1957 range, their "Pour le Merite" being the most prestigious ! Ernst Junger, he of "Storm of Steel" fame was an owner of such a piece......now to find one of those !
Prost ! Steve.
