It is a fake. The 'cockade' within the wreath is incorrect,
as is the chinstrap. ( The eagle might be original )

The hat is post-war, East German I believe.........

Just for comparison and additional reference, here is an East German Army officer's cap with its original insignia:

(My only piece of GDR regalia, mostly bought because it was cheap.)

My only GDR piece is a Grenztruppen Der DDR (border guard) trench coat bought for a tenner back in 1990 from a surplus store. Very cosy and warm I used to wear it around when I lived in the UK at that time.
