Brain teaser............what am I ?

This is a cap (one of 5 ) I have picked up this week at the war and peace show in the Uk.

It is a great example of something not being what it first appears to be........

The question is "what am I" ? (the cap that is, not me !)

Clue...it is posted in the correct forum.

the clue about being in the right forum, please ignore. who- ever moved it thinks its a pre-1918 cap......

The Mutze or the korkades? or both? the State korkade looks like a Saxon Reserve, for Landwher, or Landsturm on a universal Mutze.

Wasn't the Landwehr's cockade a white cross on red? I think this one is a Hanseatic cockade.

Have a guess at both !

Your first guess is what I initially thought when I bought it. Although something wasn't quite right and it niggled me.... Your answer I am sorry to say is not correct.

HPL.....you are correct with the Hanseatic line of enquiry for the cockade......does anyone know which hanseatic city/port the cross is for ?

Hamburg, Lubeck or Bremen?

Gents....Landwehr cross is white on black, the cockade is for Hamburg or Lubeck....Bremen was a whit/red/white cockade (same as Hesse caps, but not Pickelhaubes!)......so we have a M17 Field cap for either Hansiatic city Regiments..Infanterie-Regt. Hamburg (2.Hanseatisches) Nr.76 (Hamburg) VIII Armee Korps or Infanterie-Regt. Lübeck (3.Hanseatisches) Nr.162 (Lübeck, III Bn Eutin) VIII Armee Korps, Bremen being number 1.Hanseatisches.

it is NOT an m17 field cap though.......... its a ***** field cap
