    Which kind of cap are you talking of? Feldmütze/Schiffchenmütze...? For which part of the Heer - WH/LW/Marine....?

    Something like that?:

    ss tropical cap

    or that?:

    M40 tropical caps in French Magazine

    I don't think that without photos anybody can help.

    Also, what are "Herrington" and a "sartouch"? Do you mean "herringbone twill" and a "soutache"? But, as said above, photos are a must.

    hi sorry for the spelling as you pointed out it should have been herringbone and soutache . I am having problems with my camera at the moment but I hope to sort it asap , it is the field cap for enlisted men but at this point I just need some advice as to did they use this type without the side grommets and only the national colours on the front .

    I must say, I am still confused: what are we talking about? Elite = SS? Then there is no cockade but the eagle and the skull (should be the woven version). If we talk of the WH version then there is the eagle and the cockade. Air vents should be in all these tropical caps - as long as we talk about the Feldmütze. (But for the exceptions to the rule.) The term "dark cap" doesn't tell me anything, but, after all, that's just me and I'm no specialist for Einheitsfeldmützen. So, without pictures, I (and I am afraid the specialists, too) won't be able to help you.

    Did you mean DAK instead of Dark? ("summer or dark"). If so "Tropical" would be the best term.

    DAK = Afrika Korp

    hi yes it is tropical and I assume ss due to the herringbone twill also it has not got the side air vents or any trace of an of any ss insignia just the national cockade , I just wish my camera was working . I just do not know if they used these or maybe theatre made ? and do not want to take a chance if it is a fantasy piece .?

    Ah, but that's something! It is clear now that it is no DAK (Deutsches Afrika Korps) but a dark (gray) cap. The cockade would indicate WH, it is indeed a herringbone twill cap as made for e.g. mechanics. I'm no specialist for Feldmützen (I'm not even a real specialist at all, I just sometimes recognize the straightforward pieces) but I'm sure you'll get some more decent answers now.
