    Hi Guys,

I have been offered a trade for this cap. I have looked through the threads to learn about these, and I believe that it is a good one. I would appreciate expert opinions and further input!

My only concern is a lack of a soutache. I'm guessing it was just unissued?

    Thanks,
    Mo

    Hello,
It is an original tropical sidecap produced in December 1942
Soutaches were not applied in units...if this one has no soutache it's because soutaches were discontinued in 1942.
    Thanks

Greetings ObKrieger! This one is right as rain IMO. Don't let the lack of soutache concern you. In fact, I would be concerned if it had one. They did away with the soutache sometime around July of 1942, so people tend to shy away from a soutached example that is dated after that. As far as the cap itself, this one appears to be a textbook example. Construction, insignia, rivet, and stampings all appear correct. It probably came from the Beehive Cache. If that is the case, then it most certainly would be unissued. I would love to add one of these to my collection, but they don't seem to pop up for sale too often. Good luck with your trade!

Thanks guys! I appreciate the soutache info. I also thought that it was one of these 'beehive hoarde' pieces I have been reading about. I will go ahead with the trade then! He wants this cap: https://www.warrelics.eu/forum/cloth...halfar-216180/

He is also throwing in an SA cap badge! haha

As has been mentioned, there should not be a soutache after July 42 and many of these have had them added in an attempt to make them more valuable and it is getting harder to find one that has not been messed with. Almost certainly from the "Beehive" hoard.

It does not appear to have the thread loops that hold the front of the turnup flap in place, which is a bit odd, though it might just be the picture

Plenty of these about and lots of threads on them. I have one made by Brandt, others made by Halfar along with Clemens Wagner and some less common makers were found.
