    You might ask yourself, in analyzing these images, why the field grey portions of said peaked cap are damaged, whereas the black Muetzenband looks undamaged and shows little or no wear...?

    Because this was WH cap, made to look like a SS cap?

    And what about the fieldcap?

    Also, if you look at the paste board band (the foundation of the cap...) the Muetzensteg seems to have been redone, removed, or otherwise violated....which is a pretty incriminating sign of reupholstery.

    A tale told many times, to be sure....

    Grey SS peaked caps for the NCO and other ranks are rare, and we have many nice images of such items here.

    The M40 Feldmutze I suspect has been made from a greatcoat. Overall the cut is wrong, and the seams to the crown are wrong too.
