Hi folks,Picked up this Luftwaffe Flieger Mutze today, Looks genuine to me, Light to moderate wear no glow at all under U.V. owners name penned inside (i'll take this with a pinch of salt) no sign of a manufacturers stamp. Adler has a black or very dark blue back ground that appears to have been machined on before the lining was assembled to the cap. I believe that i read else where on the forum that the badges on these Mutzen are generally hand stitched mmmmm, as always i look forward to your valued opinions gentlemen .Cheers Paul

    Hi paulscoot,

I just wonder why this cap was sewn together with white yarn - yarn tends to bleach, but this yarn is white even at the inside of the cap if my eyes don't betray me. I'm no specialist for insignia but I can't think of a reason why the eagle should have been machine sewn on with a white yarn when the base of it is almost black (which is quite unusual in itself, as you mentioned). I am looking forward, as always, to the specialists' opinion, hoping for you that they have a better opinion of the cap than me.

Stranger things happened during wartime conditions ,thank you for your reply if it isn't right somebody has certainly gone to a lot of effort to repro a common mutzen mmmmm! cheers Paul

Cap itself could be OK, but that eagle is really an issue, IMHO. These caps are very plentiful, and inexpensive, so I would wait for an "no questions" example.

The cap itself looks like one that may have been made in one of the occupied countries, but I agree with BobS, a nice textbook example isn't too hard to source.
