    Good evening,

I am thinking of making an offer on this Schirmmutze, but I have never purchased one. I have attempted to research these on the forum and have come up with a few questions. Pardon the pictures from the seller...I think they are using an older camera.

Here are my main concerns or questions:

The RZM tag seems out of place. I have not seen another RZM tag in a Schirmmutze during my research. Does this seem to fit with other General Officer visors?
The center of the cockade appears to be gold bullion and I have not been able to locate a photo of a similar cockade.
Does the metal cap badge fit with the gold bullion on the rest of the visor?
Is the material correct? It appears to be felt.

Thank you for any info you are able to provide...Have a great night.

There should be NO RZM tag. RZM is political only.

That said, this whole cap is bad to the bone. Stay very very far away.

Many fine original examples to compare to here (gold piping or not)

Any time. Glad you didn't lose any money. Always pays if you are still unsure to post for review.

But if you are interested in a visor, seriously, spend some time and look through all the threads here. It will be extremely satisfying once you can spot the fakes.

On this one (forgetting about the "RZM" tag) just one look of the interior is a dead give away. The exterior as well.

I agree the forum is a treasure trove of information and I have learned a lot.

I did a little digging online and found some pictures of what I believe to be an original. The quality of the liner, sweat band, and overall stitching is obvious, even to me...the "newbie". I do have a couple more questions...

Is the diamond pattern on the underside of the brim indicative of a higher quality item or is this a common thing?

Would this style have been worn by a General der Flieger circa 1943-45?

    Thank you.....

I am not too sure this is an authentic LW general's cap - there are some issues to this cap (take a close look at
the cockade of the wings!) - I'd need further detailed pictures of what is under the sweatband but the specialists can certainly tell you from these pictures alone. Paying members BTW can see authentic caps here: LW GENERAL Visors

as registered member you can see originals here:

general LW Visor cap original, or fake?

You can also do a research of you own in this forum, just use the search function on the top right of this page.

As to the sweat diamond: the more common (and as prescribed by the regulations) form was not a rhombus but a form like in my avatar ("Auf dem Futterboden ist zum Schutze gegen Schweiß usw. eine 13,5 cm breite und 15,5 cm lange, hinten abgerundete, wetterfeste, glashelle Cellophanplatte..... aufgesteppt - [on the lining ... is sewn a plaque of cellophane, 13.5 cm wide and 15.5 cm long which is rounded at the back, wheatherproof and clear])

    Bob,

Thank you for the pictures. That is a wonderful collection. I am trying to put together a similar grouping/display for General der Flieger Hans Seidemann. I have been learning the ropes and tend to be overly cautious based on some of the bad experiences I have read about.....
