“Show me the regulation, and I’ll show you the exception.”
ok here we go..............
I don't like it because:
a) I go on my first glance and I don't get a good gut feeling or that tingly excited feeling of a good find
b) piping don't look quite right...might be dyed but colour don't seem bordeaux enough for me, more purple than red
c) rolled over sweatband....not keen on that feature
d) lining looks a bit too "nylon" for me...got that shiny look
e) the cardboard (literally) sweat band is the same as I have seen on post war 1950's caps.....
f) the underside of the peak looks wrong, shiny and is made of ? need hands on...
g) the seller knows what it is therefore what it is worth so why e bay
h) the cap is rare and therefore buyer beware from any outlet of sale
i) cloth of crown may be a little "green" on the cap band
Apart from that I like it. My bids in already.
Conclusion is a post war mock up from a 1950's police cap.............at a guess
or I could be totally wrong and its original !
cheers
tony
Tony, you hit the nails on the heads. Cap is by a fantasy maker--Hermann Preuss never existed (although there was an anti-fascist baker in Berlin by that name who was executed by the Nazis in 1944). The seller is a member of the "other" forum--tells you a lot when he tries to dump it on German ebay.
These "Preuss" caps are new to me, but they probably have been around a while. I think they are by the same maker as the "Adolf Block" visors.

I got an ill feeling when I first saw it. Gut intuition? maybe so. or maybe the shrimp coctail left in the sun for a few hours...
Scary that he dumps it, knowing what it is....or rather not is.....
You should have waited for more comments Tony I never had a chance. Only joking, Thanks for the pointers
When I first seen it, I thought the sweatband was a bit vile looking. And the wool was very course. But I thought the insignia was alright.
Cheers, Pat
