    Default SA Kepi for review

Had this for a while, and wondered what your thoughts were?

Had an "expert" tell me that it had Russian museum stamps inside???

Eagle looks in keeping with the rest of the cap. Nice little RZM label hidden inside, a couple of moth tracks on the band, but other than that, I think it's "bang on" However, I have been known to be wrong in the past
I think the blue is for the Hansa Ha or Hessen He districts

Can't speak to the shirt, but the Kepi is an original, with the Soviet Museum stamps. Eagle is actually the civil m-38 style, but could be original to the hat. Hat could be for Warthe.

Very nice material. I cannot speak to the stamps of non Nazi origin, but the piece looks fine to me. Bob Coleman is the SA expert here.

The hat is a very rough wool, and shows much nap wear--this hat was worn hard.

This SA Kepi is made of Koeper, i.e. cotton.

SA Kepis came in either woolen textile or cotton, i.e. Koeper.

The Herstellungsvorschriften describe this fact clearly.

Further, kepis were furnished either in a rigid or soft version.

This appears to be the rigid variety in cotton.

    Happy hats.

a very nice original example. As Stonemeint mentioned, the eagle is not correct. For some reason, it seems that in the old Soviet system, insignia was removed from caps and tunics and reapplied as needed.

Thanks for the comments on it. I like it, even though it has been "messed with"

    John-
All of the numbers in the inside top of the kepi are some form of inventory number added post war. This could have come from any Eastern European museum or theatrical company.

I think the East block stamps add character and a certain aspect that is appropriate. Too many collectors engage in really odd behavior as regards these things that they should make time stand still, which is absurd. The thing reflects history, and that is why we want it. The history of central and eastern Europe is marked by the epoch of Nazism and Communism. Go ask they people who live there. Observe the theft of the sign from Auschwitz.

I own an ex Barrandov/Czechia black officer's cap pictured as the item closest to the camera, and it has replaced insignia (omigod!), but so what? It also has some of these odd stamps, but I like it a lot. Not all of World War II was fought at El Alamein or Omaha Beach.

Thank you for showing us your things.
