Schellenberg Heer Artillery Officers Schirmmütze

Article about: Yes, it's possible. I would just take some matching wool and blend it into the remaining wool around the eagle. Same goes for the piping. It's very time consuming though so my usual advice i

    Hi Adrian,
Given my new-found interest in visor caps (can't wait for my Erel Artillery to arrive!), I wonder how you ended up getting on with this example, did you end up replacing the adler?

Not yet Glenn, I still have the same one in situ. I'm a bit fussy on what adler I replace it with, it has to be of the same style and look 'right' in my eyes. I've only seen one that I was happy with but it sold before I could get in there.

    I'll keep looking..........

There are plenty of them in the market.

Indeed, I find it a little odd that there appears to be a plentiful supply of nice visor caps around at relatively reasonable prices compared to steel helmets of which there must surely have been many times the quantity produced. Given the ratio of officers to enlisted men I would have to take a rough guess at what, one officer visor for every 30 helmets?

Perhaps the Officer visors we see on dealer's sites these days are the 'stay-at-home-parade-day' items that tended to be more likely to survive the war? Or are simply more collectors interested in helmets?
