Looks to be an NCO upgrade. Nice cap.
Thanks Jake, can you clarify why you think it's an upgrade?
Sure thing. As you probably know officers had to purchase their own caps. This cap is a standard issue piece which leads me to believe that it was upgraded to officer ranks by adding bullion insignia and the officers chin strap. Perhaps by the company tailor.
Compare to this similar cap, but without upgraded insignia: Artillery Officer Visor Cap- WWII German (item #1119155, detailed views)
Hi
This is a nice early other ranks cap for artillery regt 36. The numbers before the AR will tell us which battery it was allocated to. Can't see it clearly on these pictures. the II is for the second set, which means it was for parades and sunday best.
Made from tricot with red rust lining this is a classic contract cap. Did it have a celluoid at any time ?
The upgrade has been discussed and IMO is possibly a post war addition to ramp up the cap value, that said nice bullion insignia is worth a bit now a days !
cracker really, even the regt can be researched to add "value" and interest to the item.
cheers
Tony
Very nice, really like the bullion insignia on this
