Hat is real, but I agree, the fading is uneven and blotchy. I suspect a dye job.

Not sure if its just the photo, but on pic number 3 from the top, you can see a spot of "pink" on the grey part of the cap where they dripped the dye I think. Its on the left side and pretty noticeable if you click on it

This is an interesting waffenfarbe. I think the Germans would have used this one in the 80's.
