It appears to be a fine period original unissued cap which would explain the lack of insignia. The chemicals on the sticker on the visor will likely damage the finish and I would suggest carefully removing it.

Hi Bob, Your response and comments are greatly appreciated. I purchased the cap from the widdow of the guy who aquired it and was shown a photo of him wearing it but she would not let the photo go. It was badged in the photo so would guess that the family removed them? I will remove the sticker ASAP in accordance with your advice. Am I correct in my assumption that the insignia is repro? As it stands, would you be prepaired to give me a rough idea of its value please?

The badges are reproductions, but the cap itself is wholly real.
Very nice cap, I like the fact that the tag is labeled as such. Nice history even though the insignia are stinkers.
