Thanks for yours and you surely have nice material.

This website is popular because we have tried to make it a civilized place, but such an effort is not without set backs and disappointments, to be sure.

Our world is such that everything has a price tag on it; much of life is a casino table 24 hours a day; most parties seem to want to get rich quick; each day witnesses thousands and thousands of prices for shares marching past on the bottom of the screen. D'Alquen decries this trend, as he should, but it is also true that some of us do not frequent the leading militaria shows, where, I think, the real prices are set versus the glamor websites. I only know what is on the websites, as I have retired from local militaria shows in my area.

I am in the process now of buying the CDs of Uniformenmarkt, now that I have my hat making book, as well as the Herstellungsvorschriften der RZM. I hope to add more to the general exchange. One day I should get a new digital camera and figure out how to make it inter operate with my wonkish computer.

But I have not, and will not anytime soon, because I am going back to Europe for a large chunk of the winter.

Dear Horst, Actually I am bound for Wien, which is a 2d home to me.
Oktoberfest is not my cup of tea, or Krugerl vom Biere, as it were.
I spent a lot of time in Munich this summer, in fact, as well as much time in Oberbayern generally. I finally figured out how to drive around the outer, middle and inner ring roads in Munich as I had to commute from the vicinity of the Deutsches Museum across the river to the Ammergau. I had no time to find NS regalia, or to visit historical places, as my work left no respite. Such is probably for the best. I leave it to Robert H and Peter J to penetrate the subtle places where SS regalia resides in Bayern.

I shall leave this site to find its own way and then all concerned can enjoy their cap "sculls" and fussing about Cupal. The Herstellungsvorschriften der RZM are pretty specific about metallurgy as near as I can tell, in fact, but same are from 1936, that is, at the start of war time rationalization and the general drive to autarky.

Dear Sir, thanks for the kind sentiment. My work is pretty all encompassing and relentless, but I am glad I have it in a world where such a thing is no longer a given. My ambition is plainly to retire and to devote myself to these kinds of things we discuss here rather than to the subjects in the headlines, and I do not mean golf players and their secret lives.
The good thing about my professional chores is I can spend a lot of time in central Europe, which I have gotten to know fairly well as well as wonderful professional and personal contacts there over more than three decades. I have even made my way to the Caucasus, in fact, which have their own charm and poetry to be sure.

FYI, I gave a long explanation on the WAF on this Kepi as to why it is a post-war piece. Too much posting to repeat it here, but feel free to check it out of there. Even Herr Lumsden piped in on the skull.

Here is an SA kepi on Whammond's site for orientation of what an early piece looks like with a maker's mark. My apologies to him for stealing his picture, but I know he supports the education of the multitude.

I cannot find the images of the Kupper piece I sold to Bob Coleman.
It was similar to what I attach here.

This piece so attached on the Canadian site is attractive and in wonderful shape for such an early Stueck.

F-B, now that is an unquestionable original. Maker is Alfred Valet--I have an NSDAP visor also made by them.

The piece I sold to our mutual friend is similar, i.e. made prior to the 1935 requirement to ditch the maker's mark.

Whamond had years ago a real Kupper SS kepi, but I do not know where the image is.

I have to look, as I did down load it.

Happy head wear and thanks for deciphering the A1 or A2 code.

The truth is more easily had here than on other websites, is it not?
