Not an expert on these so go easy on me if I'm wrong, but it looks to me like a post-war cap with repro insignia poorly sewn on.
Am I close, Ade?
Hi Mo, you are spot on!
It is a bad one.
Cheers, Ade.
Thanks chaps, I thought the buttons looked oversize to?
I wasn't after buying it, I just saw it fairly cheap and thought I'd show it to you guys.
I don't think I'd buy any SS headgear unless I had serious handbag!!!
Looks typical of the caps that are currently all over e bay for sale with some repro insignia sown on

Original trapezoid IMO sewn post war onto a very dubious cap.
How much do these traps go for these day? $300, 400?
The buttons do not have a consistant pattern on them. If you look at the edges of the buttons there is no pattern, on originals the pattern would be covering the whole button. Just a little detail that I noticed
Good luck in finding a genuine one.
Don't let buttons or insignia or anything else easily sewn onto a cap put you off. Judge the cap itself. I've seen a lot original caps with lots of strange post war stuff attached..
