    Original sun helmet but I don't like the shadow around the shields - I think it has been "SS pimped".

    Agree with Dan, looks like they took the old shields off and put those on.

    One which needs to be in hand; the shadows could be "real" shadows in my opinion.

    True - but hard to figure how the shadow could be on both sides of the shield in the same photo?

    It appears the images where taken in a shadow box. If this is so, there's probably a light source from the left, right and above resulting in the effect we see here, i.e: the shadows on both sides of the shields. I've actually produced similar images when using my shadow box to photograph items from the collection.
    I do agree though, these are easy to create and without direct providence this wouldn't be a item for me.

    In the overhead shot there appears to be gaps between shields and helmet which suggests they have not been together for circa 70 years.
