I don't like the construction of the cap. The trikot and the sweatband are very odd as well. I am leaning torwards this being a frankenstein.

They never get the piping perfect- slightly uneven in thickness, and the piping above and below the band is a little too thick all around. The materials are also strange...
I can only agree with what has been said up so far. Branch piped SS gray caps that are original are extremely scarce. I have only handled three in my collecting life span.
