Do let me say that I am sorry to write this, but this item is a well made fake that has been ghosting around for a number of years. Or one of several fakes with some Oberbayern and or Alpenland association, etc. I am not aware of this Edelweiss being worn on SS caps of this kind in this epoch and so forth.


We have many images of such black caps with the early badges, if you want to compare. I won't list all the flaws.

sutka, it is a high-end fake.
I can't speak for the dealer in question, but dealers cannot be specialists in everything.
Every dealer I know has sold a fake at one time or another (and yes, there are certain dealers that sell fakes all the time, but emedals is not one of them.) My understanding is that his specialty is just that--medals.

Hopefully your friend can get a full refund.

He should definitely return it. I would expect an operation like Emedals to honor returns if it is within a reasonable time frame. I've bought a few items from them and have been happy but they have been known to sell some fakes.

Collectors should learn their craft and not rely on dealers. If you don't know, than ask the forum first!

A dead give away is it has the incorrect RZM tag for the period this hat is purported to be from. I should have the white base tag, not black. As said it is a well made fake. The parts and time period just do not line up.
