    Default Third Reich Woman's Hat

    Cheers Everyone,

I recently acquired a lot of German items from a veterans estate. This woman's hat was included in the lot of items. I know it is real, but I was just curious to see if anyone else has seen any similar hats. I tried to find a period picture of someone wearing a similar hat, but I had no luck. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers, Warbuff

It appears to be a costume type hat worn in those German " Kultur" parades, but you would have to look closely to find an example of your type.

(a parade of this type starts at the 15:30 mark):

Thanks for the comment. I could not find a picture of someone wearing this type of hat, but this has given me a place to continue my search.

I have been looking through several pictures of the Nuremburg Rallies, May Day Parades, National Socialist Women's League pictures and other Third Reich Occult pictures for the summer solstice and other celebrations.. Can't exactly match your hat but these are some other areas you may look at pictures..

    Warbuff,

Here is a picture postcard from what has been reported as the First May Day Parade during the Third Reich era.. I know the hat does not look similar but it may broaden the search area..

It could also be a pre war hat from the US. Is the makers name in the hat . Gary

I beg to differ and would actually say we can safely rule out that origin. The participants in such parades wore traditional German dress, recreations of historical clothes (more or less accurate) and mythological costumes. This hat is neither.

I, too, think this is much likelier. Prior to being "occupied" by the Nazis, the Swastika was a popular "good luck" symbol in many countries, including and especially the U.S.

All i can say is that all these items were brought back by the same veteran at the end of the war, so I have no doubt that these items came from germany.
