It is an old fake. It came from Scandinavia at the end of the 1990s. It was sold by an Australian personage with a public profile, let us say, while remaining vague.
Don't waste your time. I actually think that Mr. Mint has a picture of this cap in one of his cap bins.
The issue of the "colored pipes" only makes for discord, disharmony and mental flatulence.
To be fair, I think it is a very well made reproduction.
I think this cap is one of these, actually, or certainly not dissimilar.

Too droll does not really describe this exercise.
It is made from a real army cap, I think. That is, it is not a modern fake of the past couple of decades made out of whole cloth.by Patrick Lewis

A word of advice: as concerns grey SS peaked caps, avoid the many, many traps associated with this widely faked regalia. Authentic examples are quite few.Thank you very much to you all !

There are authentic grey SS caps for sale on the Whammond Collector's Guild site and on the Grenadier Military Anitques site. There may be others of which I am not aware.
Neither of these has Waffenfarbe, per se, but the white color that was prescribed for most of the time, save in 1940.
