Hi Dave, US M1938 Anti - Gas Hood. These were chemically impregnated.

Value around $25 today.

It should have a small tab inside at the back with two button holes in.This is so it can be buttoned onto the collar of the wool shirt or HBT shirts.On some shirts there are two buttons on the collar for this to attach to.It goes over the service respirator(gas mask)
Would these have a slightly greasy feel if they have been impregnated?

I am thinking back to the one I owned 25 years ago now: that did not feel greasy. The active indredient in these was charcoal I think? Unlike the impregnated HBT shirts and trousers, now they were greasy.
