Cap That looks Like its Been There and Done That

Hello everyone,

I recently picked this up this USN officer's visor at an estate sale. Although not in the best shape, its still intact. the seller didn't know the story behind it. I could not find a name or a service number, which is too bad because it looks like it has had an interesting history. I'm still researching it but it looks like it may be early war or pre-war manufacture based on the strap buttons. Probably like most collectors, I'm acquiring too much stuff. Nonetheless, it was a bargain.....and I couldn't resist the salty look. Thanks for looking.

I agree, this cap does in-fact seem as if it has a story to tell. I think it looks great. Congratulations on the find.

Thanks Rene. I was hoping to find a name behind the sweat band but no such luck. I image that the cap had a sweat shield but no evidence that I can see. It is neat that it is early and well-used. I'm going to try to clean the leather a little to help preserve it but otherwise leave the hat as is.

This is a wonderful looking hat.. I can't comment on the era or make but it is a nice worn piece and I can imagine it being worn on a bridge of a ship with the salt sea mist lightly spraying the owner and his hat..
