    Hi all.

This is a very curious cap that I picked up along with a Civil War era GAR cap. I'm curious if anyone recognizes not only it's era but it's branch, etc. The wool color is almost identical to that of the GAR cap it was with, but I don't want to assume that this is not just a coincidence. I know there was a naval military during the civil war, but I don't think this cap style existed at the time (I could be wrong). To me this looks more like WW2 era, which is why I'm posting it here.

    Thoughts?

I'd research the company see when they used that address , Navy items didn't change as quickly as the other services .

    Good idea Chis.

I thought Merchant Marines as well Jerry, but I cannot for the life of me find a cap like this in both color and insignia.

Regarding D Klein and brothers, i found this in a Philadelphia hospital 1932 yearbook

    KLEIN'S

    Rainproofed Tailored

    NURSES' CAPES

    D. Klein & Bro., Inc.

Kleins must have been trading since the 1850s!....

Thanks for the post Gunny. I found an ad that provides further clarity on how long the company has been around. In this ad you can see the same addresses as what is printed on the cap, but from a 1913 (may be 1918) printed publication. It also states in the ad they've been "Taylors to Army and Navy Officers for Over Sixty Years". Between your find and mine it definitely appears they date to the 1850s.
