Default Oxford & Buckingham Light infantry OSD cap

A pick up from during when I had little or no internet and was taking some time out was this cap to an unnamed officer in the Ox & Bucks Light Infantry. It came with a photo of him wearing his cap but that also is not named.

The cap is the soft doeskin type, probably mid 1930's in date and a real beauty though sadly its original badge was missing and instead it came with an or's white metal example on a slider. At some stage I will pick up an officers silvered example on lugs to restore to it.

The Ox & bucks were famous for their assault on Pegasus bridge on D Day and perhaps he was there with their 2nd bn though as it was in Cardiff it is possible he was 1st Bn as they were part of the 53rd Welsh division and served with them in NW Europe during WWII.

    That is nice Jerry.

Did officers wear silver badges in WWII and if so, are there hallmarks?

Tony they switched to silver or silver plated circa 1915 and carried on after. Only the silver would hallmarked and are rare, whilst the silver plated are unmarked or might have S or P on them.

Outstanding cap indeed Jerry and a real find to have a photo of the officer wearing the cap! What a piece of history. It is a shame you cannot find out more about the officer.
