With faint webbing stamps, if you wet it, they become more visible.

Have you tried a Blacklight? Good luck.

Camping and waiting to see if they appear, works most of the time.

    Reviving beret markings?

Thanks for the tips. I have tried wetting it several times and have got this. There appears to be a 6 (circled) and the remains of text on the right, which looks like there is a line over it. The beret looks like a Supak but 1944 or 1954.... The WD stamp is M.

The line is not seen on post war supaks, therefore 1944.

A proven (but expensive) way to see ink stamps on webbing and cloth is to use night vision goggles.

I had a really cheap pair I (I mean Santa) bought my kids years ago. Tried it out, worked well...then the cheap batteries that came with them burst and ....no more night vision...
"Please", Thank You" and proper manners appreciated

My greatest fear is that one day I will die and my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them

I have always fancied a pair of night vision goggles... but I will try the blue light test first... once I get some new batteries.

The beret was a bargain so if its 1954 then its fine too. The signs seem to point to wartime... or that could be wishful thinking!

It is wartime if it has the line on the makers mark.
