I believe these are referred to as a Balmoral , but I can't comment about the date . The badge was used in WWII , but it could be earlier . Never seen a white one before , maybe Pipe Band as they are a Highland unit .
Cheers
thanks for you help
I never seen a white before, but I like it

Yes it is very attractive item , I sure someone here will know more then I .
I'd contact the A&S Highlanders Museum for a definitive answer. Certainly an unusual item.

Yep, a Balmoral bonnet with an Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders cap badge but it is not a military cap though the badge is a good pre-staybright item (anywhere from WW1 to 1960's without closer examination) and it is not unusual to see such a badge in civilian highland formal dress.
A nice piece altogether for the collector of highland dress!
Question; How many thistles can you see on an A&SH cap badge?
Answer; Most peple will count ten. Wrong, the whole thing is a thistle so the answer is eleven!

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing he cares more about than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature with no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself."
Thanks for the answer Mark , I thought a white Balmoral was strange . I'm more of a Glengarry guy myself .
Cheers Chris
