I dug this up out of storage. It is supposedly my dad's from his time in the Navy 1944-1946. However, the contract number appears to be from the 1950's or 1960's, which means it belonged to my uncle. It will be part of my militaria display when I get everything put together. Too small for me. No name on the inside, just size 6 7/8, and the military issue tag.
It's not worth much in money, but it still means a lot to me. Although I was really hoping it was Dads' hat.
What did we do before Google? USN Contract N140-62236s-54294B was dated April 14, 1955 to the Ideal Uniform Cap Company. However, the contract was canceled due to default. There are no other references I can find. Perhaps someone here knows more about deciphering Navy Contract numbers.
