does this appear to be a WWII slouch hat?,

dark brown vent holes ,

no sweat band

Gday mate,
Pics are not the best but it ticks the boxes for me.Late war unedged build.The early WW2 issue had tan edging around the brim.
A good one I feel.These babies are becoming scarce and rather expensive.

Must have missed this one, certainly looks good to me from the brown vents. Any chance of seeing the rest of it, just because I like to see them.

just of note there is also a defense department stamp there

Yep, looks pukka to me. As reneblacky says it has the D /|\ D stamp on it, which whilst being no gurantee it dates it to WW2, it IS a genuine issue item.

The date would be on the brown sweatband internally, if it was still there.

It is guaranteed WW2 as it's got reddish brown eyelets and CARR brand press stud.
