WWII USN Flight Deck Helmet???

Maybe someone has seen one of these and can tell me what it is exactly? We picked this up at a military show, not really knowing what it was, but the price was right. Have not been able to find another on the net. My assumption is that it is a flight deck leather helmet but as I said, I can not confirm that. No marking other than the big U.S.N. stencil that you see in the photos. Nothing markings on the inside except a small tag that says MEDIUM. Not even sure it is military at this point but can't think who else might use/need such a thing.

It is a pre WWII leather flight cap. I do not remember which one at the moment.
Flight deck crewmans caps were made of cloth and did not use communication equipment during WWII.

It very well could be.
The only flight deck helmets that I have seen are cloth. Enlisted flight deck gear is a vauge area for me.

Found a little more info on this helmet and it points to it being a Flight Training Helmet, pre-war, the type the US Navy used for training in the N3N. I'm going with this one!
