Agreed.
I am constantly amazed, what weak people will say to others using the venue of the internet.
Some keyboard Ninjas will insult others using vile language, that they would never dare say to another person in a dark alley. Disgusting.
I am not referring to this thread of course. Just making a general observation.
Actually, I think the tone on this forum is pretty good (mods may pat themselves on the shoulder : - )).
Thanks. I suppose I should ignore it all, but since the study of history is my profession of forty years, then I am protective of the habits of the mind that will enable us all to know more. This instantaneous communication thing is a mixed blessing, just as Wilbur and Orville Wright or Otto Lilienthal imagined the improvement of humanity with mechanized wings, only to have it all result in Rotterdam, Coventry and Dresden.

That's very nice of you Friedrich but i believe even with too much discount it would still be too much for my pocket
Who knows? If present trends continue, I shall have to eat my hats. They do not smell so good, in fact, as they are foetid woolens.

Are you talking about me as the younger genertion ?
Because I have been collecting for year's. Just not SS, And what SS items are not High end goods today.
With out NEW collecter's like me the game would DIE out, That's sad but true.
You are right NO apprenticesships today. Get it wrong and you pay.
Dear Sir, my comments were not aimed at you personally, not at all!
I still consider myself as a very new collector actualy. The only difference is that I'm fully aware that I am still serving my apprenticeship and although I know a thing or two, there are many years of study to go. That's the point I was trying to make, there are no short cuts in this unforgiving hobby.
New collectors are absolutely the key, without new blood, all is lost. However, looking for the quick and easy answer is not beneficial for the future. It's takes many hours of mostly boring research and asking questions. It's not a "plug and play" hobby if you understand what I mean?

Re: Allgemeine SS NCO schirmutze

Allgemeine SS came into use ca. 1934 once the SS began to split into different bits, i.e. the SSVT and the other specified branches, to designate the core of the SS with its order of battle more or less in imitation of the SA organization. I believe the same Allgemeine term was also used for the HJ to distinguish its bulk from specialized HJ units, i.e. the Marine HJ, HJ Streifendienst. etc. The Allgemeine SS shrank in its role once the war began, but continued to exist, surely, and the black uniform never fully went out of use, either, despite what some savants would have you believe.
At least the word is spelled properly in this thread. The normal, partially informed collector cannot spell the word properly.
I think this explains the point I'm trying to raise quite nicely.
How many of us have heard the term "Allgemeine" but never given it much thought before? I know I have. Allgemeine just means black hats and uniforms, right?
