    Default Camouflage Caps WITH Insignia?

    Gentlemen,

As most of you may know, I specialise in Soviet militaria.

However, I have always admired Third Reich EM/NCO Luftwaffe and WHeer cloth items, especially M40 wool tunics & tropical garb - but those nice, and quite attractive M41/M43 Feldmützen warm me up to the same degree as those wired helmets.

Recently, I've had some light discussion with a friend about German camo, something I know nothing about. We got into it briefly about the application of insignia. I have never even seen period photos of insignia applied to tunics, smocks or parkas - except for Waffen SS.

On a collectors website, I saw a few Luftwaffe items offered with insignia applied, but never on any type of headgear.

Aside from SS, has anybody ever seen any period photos of Luftwaffe or WHeer personnel with insignia adorned on their camo caps?

I've searched high and low on the internet, and have viewed a lot of reproduction stuff, all SS - and even those seem to me to be quite the lot of fantasy/"dream come true" creations.

    I'm extremely curious.

Some sellers on the internet are even offering embroidered Luft & Heer insignia with camo pattern backgrounds for "reenactors".

How can one create accurate reenactment kit dressed in something that perhaps did not exist?

    Cheers,
    Richie

Richie, I have seen photos of them, but very rarely, and they always appear to be custom-tailored jobs.
I don't focus on field caps, so I do not keep photos of them, but I will post any I find here.

    Good area of inquiry, btw.

Many thanks for the reply Mr. Mint.

I look forward to viewing any you or our colleagues may find and share.

    Cheers,

I believe there is a photo in the "Don't tell me they won't have worn that" thread of a Heer officer in camo tunic and matching badged M-43 .
Many years ago I owned a splinter pattern M-43 with insignia and Pink soutache , I ended up sending it back because the eagle and cockade were green backed and not black . And I'm glad I did , custom made items like this are almost always a leap of faith , I would have never have been sure about the hats originality .

I think CBH is right--there might be an example or 2 in that thread.

    Hello,
A photo taken in Lorraine in September 1944 shows a german Officer who wears a Feldjacke and a Feldmütze 38, both made of italian camouflage cloth and both with insignia. The photo has a copyright, that's why i can't post it.
The german Officer was photographed while shooting a Panzerfaust to a destroyed Sherman tank...
    Thanks

That's the one I remembered , an incredible uniform and awards group .

I'm sure if this was seen today people would call it fake .
