Default cleaning and restoration of the cap that came with some history

    Hi

Always a tricky question....to restore or not ?

This is one I decided to work on. It had been in storage for a long time and had been attacked by moths, the leather had dried out and the buttons and buckles had rusted.

Apart from this it was mint !

Here are pics as it was....

Really interesting pasteboard for the cap construction fans. It is white and a kind of "elastic" type material. never seen it before and the moths didn't like it either.

    Here comes the re-vamped offering....

    Hi

Yes it was all my own work but it's hard to do and I'm not ready to compete with Ben VK for restoration work just yet !

    cheers

Impressive work Tony! And a very nice hat from Daniel!

I have a similar Panzer visor plagued by moth damage (not as pervasive as this one though) that I was hoping Ben would help me repair.. :-)

Great job Tony! couldn't have done better myself. Where did you "harvest" the wool from?

White elastic type pasteboard? I think I know what you mean. It's perfectly normal.

    Ben

I was lucky as the cloth on the side panels had been well preserved, especially on the "underhang" of the crown. Gave me just enough to do the repair.

    cheers
