Default DAK Panzer Regiment 8 pith helmet.

Here is a helmet with an identity crisis, worn by members of Panzer Regiment 8 when they deployed to Africa in May of 1941.

These sun helmets were made in Holland in 1940, for export to South Africa, and subsequently captured by the Germans when
they invaded Holland. The German Army issued the helmets exclusively to members of the 8th Panzer Regiment with added metal
    pith helmet shields.

This sun helmet is the same one that was featured in the Schiffer book on the DAK.
(the chin strap was missing when I obtained the helmet).

I cropped the photo from Ken's book, showing an example of this type of sun helmet hanging on the side of a Pz III in Africa....

An interesting article in the Military Trader from October 2012, by Peter Suciu, re the sun helmets being made for either the Dutch or South African military,
subsequent research showed them to be made by the Dutch for the South African Military, and then captured before they could be exported.

A great score Bob and a great thread. For a long time I was after one of these but they are not seen for sale often and I gave up. Good to see the pics of this one.
    Regards,
