I will post photos of my father. If this visor and O/S cap were found today, most would say it was done after the war.

He is actually an Obersturmfuhrer. The lack of any combat decorations or ribbons makes me wonder if he is not an officer of the Allgemeine SS working on police duties. A very odd cap to be sure.
The officer in question is wearing military shoulder boards, which was a serious trespass for wear those not entitled to Waffen SS insignia. The peak on said cap is not untypical of caps made in the Low Countries, and Mollo makes the point that SS cap insignia was rare even in the era, which explains the army insignia on the cap. I would be happy to own such a cap. The Husarentotenkopf was surely worn on the grey cap. I own such a cap, in fact. Name: HG-38b.jpg

The officers in question may be part of the training base for Waffen SS units raised in Holland.

On the other hand, the man is wearing the war service cross ribbon, found on non combatants. Riddles in enigmas.

The SS officer in question is Dr. Alfons Brendel of the SS-Schule Avegoor. (On the left, of course, is Mussert.)

Several years ago, I received an email from a gentleman in Germany regarding a thread I had started on this Forum about two tunics, a visor cap and AH Gold Party Badge I owned that belonged to a high ranking Gau level NSDAP official named Adolf Kunstmann. The gentleman who contacted me lived next door in an apartment building to Kunstmann's older son, Wilfred. Wilfred had passed away without any relatives and this gentleman was cleaning out the apartment. Among the items, he found photographs of Wilfred and his father and also Wilfred in the uniform with the rank of sturmmann and wearing the shoulder strap of an unterfuhreranwarter or potential NCO candidate. Wilfred had been assigned to 13th SS Division Handschar as a nachrichten specialist. Of interest is his feldmutze bearing a metal political form adler and a panzer totenkopf. Other pictures from the group show his entire uniform with very unusual insignia combinations. Here is the image:

I don't usualy buy photos/postcards but these two young gentlemen and their attractive hats and interesting choice of mixed insignia grabbed my attention. I think the images fit the subject of the thread rather well.
    Enjoy!
