Here is a color image of recruits in the SS dyeing their boots black (with caps on their heads to stay in this rubric...)
The Marschstiefel were issued in their natural color. These recruits look as if they are eleven years old.
Hubmann was also a leading figure in photo journalism of the time, whose work is always interesting.

The on line photo data bases of Ullstein, das Bundesarchiv and das Bildarchiv preussischer Kulturbesitz are really magnificent sources.
One can look for one's self, without an intermediary.
As a seeker of brown shirts, I am especially taken with the little thingy on the shoulder to keep the Hosentraeger in place.
