If the M1/24 skull was the original skull (which it very well could, together with the
M1/167 eagle) attached to the hat and the dealer changed to an M1/52 skull just to make it more attractive, then he must be mad!

The cap indeed had an Overhoff Totenschaedel, as is ofen the case with war time caps of this kind. The dealer changed the badge to accord with popular tastes, which err towards Deschler badges. Popular taste makes many stupid, foolish and short sighted mistakes, where one attempts to impose an anachronism on the reality of the past. These dealers both shape, and in turn, are a prisoner of such taste. All quite sad if one really wants to get at the truth, as it were.

The original badge is visible in the 1st image I posted of the somewhat squished cap as found from its viriginal source.

The cap is a very nice one, all the same, of high quality granted its date of craftsmanship.

I wonder if the Deschler Fabrik/Werkstaette was not damaged or destroyed once the bombing took hold? Does anyone know?
